- שִׁירָאIII, שִׁירָאָה m. (cmp. sericum) (of Seres, Chinese, silk. Targ. II Esth. 5:1; 6:10, v. פְּרַנְגַּן.Keth.63b הוה תפיסא חד שירא (Rashi חדא ש׳) she seized a silk garment (Rashi: a cloak).Pl. שִׁירָאִין, שִׁירָיִין, שִׁירָאֵי Targ. Ez. 27:19 בשיריין ed. Lag. (oth. ed. בשִׁירִין, corr. acc.).Sabb.90a תכך דש׳ the worm (tʿkhakh) in silk garments. Kidd.32a קרע ש׳וכ׳ tore silk garments in the presence of his son Rabbah (to test his filial respect).
